Your site will have its own unique address - the URL (Uniform
Resource Locator) - the name you will advertise and promote. Despite
the millions of web sites in existence currently, there are still
millions of names available, using various suffixes. Direct URL's
are always more successful, and found easier, than those which
are based around directories.
Your
URL should consist of the well known www, followed by your unique
name, and a suffix - perhaps .co.uk, .com, .net, .org or even
.tv.
Subject
to availability, which we can check for you, you can have virtually
any available name, although you cannot use another company's
trade name. However, to help with promoting the name, it often
helps to use a name which suggests your products - unless your
company name is
well known.
MiracleWorks
can help with choosing URL's, and occasionally we recommend multiple
names be used, all linked to one web site. Just as a simple example,
a URL for Harry Smith, a London plumber, could be www.harrysmith.co.uk
- but as an alternative,
www.london-plumber.co.uk
would be more memorable!
One
final word about e-mail. Having your own URL, simply means that
your e-mail addresses includes the URL. In the example above,
Harry's e-mail address would be harry@london-plumber.co.uk, which
means not only that
we can "guess" Harry's URL, but the e-mail address looks
more professional than using a Service Provider based e-mail address,
which would not be as clear -
for example it might be harry.smith.london plumber@abctelephones.co.uk
Miracle-Works
can guide you simply through the URL and e-mail options - as part
of creating your effective website.
